The Biden administration warned Dr. Mehmet Oz and Herschel Walker that if they don’t resign from a federal advisory committee they will be removed. Both men are running for federal office and currently serve on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, NBC News reports.
So what’s the rub?
The Biden administration doesn’t allow candidates running for federal office to serve on boards and commissions, according to one White House official.
Oz, the celebrity doctor, and Walker, a former football player were sent a letter Wednesday asking them to resign from the board by the end of the day. Both are GOP candidates who were appointed to the board by former President Donald Trump. The letter warned that refusal to step down would result in termination.
Oz entered the Pennsylvania Senate race in November, while Walker announced his candidacy for a Georgia Senate seat last August.
But apparently, Oz is in a fighting mood, and in a video posted on Twitter, he insisted he won’t resign.
“I am beyond grateful to President Trump for appointing me to this very prestigious and important position,” he said. “I am also grateful to my colleagues on the committee and council, and the amazing accomplishments we were able to achieve. I’ve got no intentions, my friends, of resigning. None.
“If President Biden wants to politicize health, he’ll have to fire me. Let Americans see how truly petty and political he truly is.”
I received this letter on behalf of @POTUS requesting I resign from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. It’s sad that he would politicize such an important issue like health. The doctor he should ask to resign is Dr. Fauci, for a multitude of obvious reasons. pic.twitter.com/fJaVLKVWOC

Earlier Wednesday, the Biden administration announced its intentions to name chef José Andrés and WNBA player Elena Delle Donne as co-chairs of the presidential council, where Walker has served as chair and Oz is a member. And Donne is grateful for the chance.
Completely honored by this appointment, especially to co-chair this committee alongside someone as generous, kind, and talented as Chef José Andrés. Thank you @POTUS! I look forward to building awareness around the best ways to take care of our minds and bodies. https://t.co/fHrJVStcv5

Insider notes at least eight incidences where Oz has made false and baseless medical claims. Not only that but in a 2015 letter to Columbia University, where Oz is a professor, 10 doctors said he promoted “quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain. The peer-reviewed British Medical Journal also did its own study in 2014 and found that out of 40 randomly selected episodes from Oz’s TV show, his health recommendations were based on evidence only 46 percent of the time.
So yeah, I hope the Biden administration dropkicks this dude off the board.
As for Walker, he recently asked:
“At one point science said that man came from apes, did it not? … If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it.”
I don’t think that either of these two belongs on any advisory board that’s devoted to fitness and health.
Need I say more?
